Soil cover movement, soil creeping, solifluction, mature high-mountain slope, Tatra Mountains, Goryczkowa Świńska Valley

The aim of the study was to recognize rate of displacement of slope cover on high-mountain slopes caused by soil creep and solifluction. The dataset includes soil movement data measured from 2002 to 2004 on slopes in the Goryczkowa Świńska Valley in the Tatra Mountains. Movements were measured at 25 cm and 50 cm depth at two study sites - T1 (1790 m a.s.l) and T2 (1720 m a.s.l.). At each site a line consisting of wooden pegs (50 cm long) and steel nails (25 cm long) spaced about 1 - 2 m apart was installed during the summer 2002. The beginning and end of the lines were marked on the rock. In subsequent years, a tape measure was stretched along the line and the distance of displacement was measured with a metre to measure with an accuracy of 0.2 cm. The results showed spatial and temporal differentiation of soil movements, related to ground temperature and the presence of snow cover.
