Snow density (snow pit)

Snow density is measured manually in snow pits, various places in the Zackenberg valley, during snow covered periods. In this dataset every position is given with its UTM coordinates (WGS 84, UTM Zone 27N) and with the name of the location, where measurements are conducted in the vicinity of existing plots. The densities are never sampled within the existing plots (unless otherwise stated), but in a radius of at least 10 meters from the plot, in an area in which the conditions and characteristics of the snowpack are similar to the given plot. The positions of all the locations are given here in UTM coordiantes (WGS 84, UTM Zone 27N). From 2017 the hand hardness of each layer in the snow pit is also recorded, with the five different categories: fist, 4f (four fingers), 1f (one finger), p (pencil), and k (knife).
