In-situ snowpack physical properties in northeastern Canada (Québec, Nunavik, Nunavut)

This data set is a compilation of in-situ snow cover measurements acquired during multi-site and multi-date measurement campaigns. It includes snow depth, bulk density and snow water equivalent data for each site and each measurement date. The period covered by the data is 2000-2019. For each site and date, the number of variables measured varies.

Name of the site or sample area #Sub-site: Name of measurement site Date of measurement Name of the site or sampling area #Sub-site: Name of measurement site Date of measurement Snow depth (SD) (cm) Snow Water equivalent SWE (kg.m-2 = mm) = Sum (hi x Di/100) where hi (cm) is the height of the layer i of density Di (kg.m-3), over the whole height of the snowpack. Bulk (mean) density, kg.m-3, , measured each 3 or 5 cm with a density cutter of respectively 100 or 250 cm3. Height of the basal layer of depth hoar (cm) Depth hoar fraction (without unit): ratio between the height of the basal layer of depth hoar (cm) and the snow depth (cm) "Env. type and comments": information on the type of land cover and/or the type of soil under the snow, and sometimes on the snowpack
